The Golden operating room (OR) has re-opened as of Jan. 28, according to Interior Health, after urgent repairs kept the suite closed for approximately two months.
Repairs are now complete and urgent surgical interventions and matemities have resumed.
“I would like to acknowledge the impacts this has had on EK RH in particular and I thank you for your patience and understanding while the repairs were carried out,” said Emma Pattinson, director of clinical operations in Golden and Invermere.
The OR was forced to close around Nov. 25, 2021, after flooding caused by a blocked drain required the floor to be replaced. Initial repairs were estimated to take approximately five weeks, but stretched through January.
Urgent surgeries were diverted to alternate facilities, including any deliveries requiring C Section backup.
Approximately booked procedures were postponed, said Interior Health back in November.
The OR flooring was already scheduled for replacement as part of regular site improvement, says Interior Health. The replacement is being fast tracked as a result of the flooding in order to get the OR back up and running as soon as possible.
