Swimmers take on best in province

On August 4 and 5, the Golden Dolphins Swim Club brought their best to the regional championships in Kamloops.

On August 4 and 5, the Golden Dolphins Swim Club brought their best to the regional championships in Kamloops.

The group of 20 swimmers at the competition accumulated a total of 54 personal best-times in their individual events.

Emme Abbs set a new club record in the women’s division 5 100-metre butterfly.

Devon Murphy, Roxy Coatesworth, and Kate Vanderbeek also broke their current club records in several events.

In their respective divisions, 11 individuals placed top three in various events, and gained their ticket into the provincial championships taking place in Surrey from August 17 to 19.

Coatesworth placed first in 100-metre individual medley, 50-metre backstroke, 50-metre breaststroke, and second in the 100-metre freestyle.

Elyssia McClean placed third in the 100-metre breaststroke and the 50-metre butterfly.

Devon Murphy placed first in the 50-metre butterfly, and third in the 100-metre individual medley, 50-metre freestyle, and 100-metre freestyle.

Leif Robinson placed third in the 50-metre butterfly.

Talus Robinson placed first in the 50-metre freestyle, 100-metre breaststroke, and second in the 100-metre freestyle.

Lauren Russell placed third in the 100-metre breaststroke.

Carter Thorne placed third in the 50-metre breaststroke.

Hunter Thorne placed second in the 50-metre breaststroke.

Kate Vanderbeek placed first in the 200-metre individual medley, 50-metre freestyle, and 100-metre backstroke, and second in the 50-metre butterfly.

Emma Russell, Elyssia McClean, Emme Abbs, and Lauren Russell placed second in both the medley and freestyle relays earning them a ticket to provincials.

The following swimmers placed top-16 and earned themselves a second-swim at finals during the competition.

Abbs placed top-eight in all of her events including the 50-metre butterfly, 100-metre butterfly, 50-metre freestyle, and 100-metre freestyle.

Nolan Alexander-Mitchell placed top-eight in the 100-metre backstroke, and top-16 in the 50-metre freestyle.

Anika Crawford placed top-16 in both the 50-metre backstroke and the 100-metre freestyle.

Ella Janes placed top-16 in the 50-metre butterfly.

Emily Kossizin placed top-16 in the 100-metre individual medley, 50-metre breaststroke, and 100-metre freestyle.

Katrina McClean placed top-16 in all of her events including the 200-metre individual medley, 50-metre freestyle, 100-metre breaststroke, and the 100-metre freestyle.

Wes Murphy placed top-eight in the 50-metre backstroke, and top-16 in the 50-metre freestyle, and 100-metre freestyle.

Niko Robinson placed top-eight in the 50-metre freestyle, and top-16 in the 100-metre freestyle.

Emma Russell placed top-eight in all of her events including the 50-metre freestyle, 100-metre backstroke, 100-metre freestyle, and the 50-metre butterfly.

Malcolm Russell placed top-eight in the 100-metre freestyle, and top-16 in the 50-metre freestyle, and 50-metre backstroke.

The Dolphins travel to Surrey this weekend to take on the best swimmers in the province.
