The Castlegar Rebels celebrate after scoring in game three against the Golden Rockets

Rockets down 3-0 in third round

The Golden rockets are one lose away from being bounced from the KIJHL playoffs.

The Golden Rockets are one game away from being eliminated from the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League playoffs after losing game three of a best of seven series against the Castlegar Rebels.

Both teams came out playing a defensive game in the first and even though there were 24 shots in the period, very few were good scoring chances.

Castlegar broke the scoreless affair with 5:53 left in the second period when Matt Reed scored his second goal of the playoffs.

The Rebels extended their lead in the third period on a goal from Travis Wellman.

The Rockets finally got one on the board on a power play point shot from Shane Rutherford.

As time was running out, the Rockets pulled their goalie only to have the move backfire as Jamie Vlanich tap in an empty net goal to make the final score 3-1.

After the game Rockets head coach, Ty Davidson, said the Rockets are having one major problem in this series.

“We need to score a goal. We have scored two goals in nine periods. It is not enough. You can’t win games if you can’t score some goals. It changes the whole dynamics of a game when you put pressure on them. They can play the way they play and sit back all night. They clog everything unknowing we are not going to penetrate or score. Plan and simple we have to score goals.”

Game four of the series will be held in Golden on March 18 starting at 7:30.
