When Rockets head coach Jason Stephens began looking for a colour commentator for the fans who watch the Rockets games online, he didn’t expect to get what he got.

12-year-old Lukas Pfisterer has been playing hockey for the past seven years. Currently he plays on the peewee team in town, but he doesn’t only play real hockey, he’s also an avid Xbox hockey player. Pfisterer says playing hockey on his Xbox caused him to seek out commentating and it lined up perfectly with Stephens seeking a colour commentator to help Rockets main commentator Tom Stanton during the season.

“It’s been really fun,” Pfisterer said. “I really enjoy doing it.”

Pfisterer got his chance to do the play-by-play for the entire game a few weeks ago when Stanton was unable to do it himself. Pfsterer stepped up and for the past month has been providing the full play-by-play himself and he rarely misses a beat.

“He’s really great,” Stephens said.

Before each game, Pfisterer studies the roster to memorize names as best he can and says while the first period is often a struggle to remember names, by the second period he has all of them down and can focus more on the game. Pfisterer says since beginning in September he has had a lot of positive feedback with many people mentioning they’ve been enjoying the streamed games even more.

As for the future, Pfisterer has a career in hockey in mind and hopes to be involved in one way or another. Whether it’s playing in the NHL or in broadcast, he’s well on his way to accomplishing that goal.

“I love hockey and everything about it,” Pfiserer said.
