Golden Rockets start off five-game road trip with a win

The Golden Rockets tallied a 3-1 win over the Columbia Valley Rockies on Feb. 7.

The Golden Rockets started off their final five games on the road with a 3-1 win over the Columbia Valley Rockies in Invermere on Tuesday.

The Rockets struck first when a delay of game penalty against the Rockies gave a Golden a two-man advantage. Keith Wake was able to capitalize on the 5 on 3 opportunity, with assists going to Brett DeFrias and Darren Andre.

Five minutes into the second it was Golden’s turn to be down a man when Lane Erickson was sent to the box for slashing. But that only increased their momentum when Andre scored shorthanded.

It would be the only goal of the period. But Rockets defenceman Michael Anderson kept the excitement going, registering his first fight of the season against Columbia Valley’s Brendan Sage.

The Rockies tallied their only goal of the game in the final frame when Todd Sykes scored at 13:32.

With his third point of the evening, Andre restored his team’s three-goal lead, scoring unassisted with two minutes left on the clock.

The next game for the Rockets will be in Spokane on Friday Feb. 10.
