A curling event held over the weekend was a rock throwing, heavy sweeping goodtime for all those who participated. 13 teams entered the men’s/open bonspiel, including four teams from the Calgary area and a pair of ladies teams. The competition level was high as teams strategically battled throughout the many games; a few teams even played seven games over the three-day tournament!

The winner of the A Event was the Liccies rink; they were a sharp team who managed a perfect weekend. The B Event went to the Hellwig rink from Calgary. The C Event went to the Piggot rink that had to change things up a bit during the weekend, but still managed to pull through, winning their final game in extra ends; the team also won for best or worst dressed, depending on who you talked with, with their colourful array of attire.

“It was the power of the pants! We dedicate the C Event victory to the shot-ski…it was a great weekend,” winner of the C Event, Brady Gabert said after the hard fought victory over the Mctaggart rink.

On Saturday night the celebrations were a plenty at the curling rink as a delicious banquet supper was put on by Canyon Creek Catering. The night also featured some friendly “horse racing” and dancing; no prizes were given out to the best dancer, unfortunately.

Although more teams would have made for plenty more curling action, those who could not make it to the bonspiel have another chance to join in on the excitement. The Golden Curling Club will be holding a mixed/open ‘spiel on March 18th-20th (dates may vary according to the number of teams).
