The Golden Secondary School bantam boys basketball team once again showed why they are one of the top teams in the Kootenays when they won their final home tournament of the season. The team put together three straight wins in what was a great tournament leading into the East Kootenay Finals which will be held in Fernie on March 8-10

Assistant Head Coach for the team, Kindy Gosal, was very happy with the team’s performance. “Yeah they played well and we won. They are a young group being grade eight and they have lots to learn. They are an excellent group of kids. They are really improving every time they come out,” he said.

One of the reasons Gosal felt the tournament was a good test for the team was because the visiting teams were all so balanced.

Head Coach Manjit Dhami thought the team saved its best defensive game of the tournament for the last one against a strong team from David Thompson High School in Invermere.

He also added the team had worked hard all year to become better as a group.

“They are a really good bunch of kids. Very friendly, backing each other up all the time. They do not let anybody down,” he said.

Gosal believes one of the reasons they have been successful this year is the team’s desire to learn the game so they could become stronger players.
