Almost 30 years ago Eddie the Eagle made history on the Canadian slopes, and now he is coming back to enjoy some Kicking Horse powder.
In1988 at the Calgary Winter Olympics, Michael “Eddie” Edwards defied the odds to become the first British Olympic ski jumper since 1929. He may not have blown the competition away, but he broke the British record, and garnered quite a bit of attention for his perseverance. Last year his story was immortalized in the major motion picture Eddie the Eagle.
Starting this weekend, Eddie will be skiing at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, and there are plenty of activities planned that give locals a chance to meet the legend.
On Sunday Feb. 26 there is a Welcome to the Horse Ski Day and Dinner, where Eddie will be skiing with locals, followed by a welcoming dinner at Double Black Cafe.
Throughout the week there will be multiple opportunities to meet Eddie, ski with him, take a “selfie”, or even see the movie. There will be two screenings of Eddie the Eagle, one on Wednesday Mar. 1 at the Golden Cinema, and another on Friday Mar. 3 at The Whitetooth Grill. Eddie will be at both screenings.
His final event will be an open photo session at Eagle’s Eye on Saturday Mar. 4 before he heads back to Calgary.
