Ken Thompson begins his long heavy journey uphill on day 1 of the Golden Ultra race. As a fundraiser for the Golden Family Centre, he carried a backpack with 18 kilograms of weight, a metaphor for the weight that people with mental health and substance abuse carry with them all the time.
For every dollar that was donated, Thompson put 10 grams in his back pack. The finally tally hit nearly $1,800, giving him quite a heavy load to carry from the gondola base up to Eagle’s Eye.
