The annual winter carnival hosted by the figure skating club is one of the biggest nights of the year at the Golden Arena. This year’s event takes place on Feb. 25.

The Golden figure skaters spend all season ramping up for their favourite night of the year, the Winter Carnival.

With the theme Through the Years, five different classes of skaters will be entertaining their family and friends at the Golden Arena with music from the 1950s right up until 2017.

"It's so funny to see how they change once we start working on the carnival," said Morgan Jmaiff, head coach for the Figure Skating Club. "They all start showing up early with tons of enthusiasm. They are working so hard to make sure these numbers are perfect for the performance."

They are working on 17 numbers, and Jmaiff expects this to be one of their biggest shows to date.

Of course that isn't all the skating club has been working on. The club recently competed at an event in Armstrong, and in March will be travelling to Kelowna for a competition.

"They did really well in Armstrong," said Jmaiff. "This year they’re doing it differently, instead of competing against fellow skaters they’re competing against themselves, so all that matters is that you have a personal best. And a lot of them did."

If you'd like to see the skaters in action, you can check out the winter carnival at 7 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 25. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5. There will also be a 50/50 draw, flowers for sale, and a concession.

"It's going to be a great show, and we just can't thank all of the volunteers enough. There wouldn't be a show without them," said Jmaiff.
