Alpine Independent School - Inquisitive by nature

Dear Editor,

The BC Ministry of Education actively supports educational choices, including Independent Schools.  As of the 2009/10 school year, 12 per cent of BC students were enrolled in 347 Independent Schools across the province.  These 70,705 students saved the BC government $301 million in funding.  Independent schools partially funded by the province must hire BC Certified teachers, follow the specified learning outcomes of the BC curriculum and are regulated by the BC Ministry of Education, Office of the Inspector of Independent Schools.

A dedicated group of local individuals have been working to create an independent school in Golden. A school that will individually motivate children to engage in practical and creative activities, while growing their enthusiasm for learning in a welcoming and safe multi-lingual environment.

Welcome to the Alpine Independent School, Inquisitive by Nature.  Alpine Independent will open in September, 2011 and is accepting registrations for Kindergarten to Grade 2 in the French Immersion program.

Children are inquisitive by nature, and with small class sizes, the BC certified teachers at Alpine Independent will recognize and build upon each individual child’s interests and motivations. Multi-grade classes allow for sharing between students and building respect between ages. Afternoons will focus on the arts, music, outdoor and cultural activities. Every person at Alpine Independent will be treated with respect, dignity and compassion at all times.

The Alpine Independent School is a non-profit organization and will be partially-funded by the BC Ministry of Education and student tuition fees, with the vision of inspiring children to be global citizens by developing their individual potential through creativity, experience, learning, and adventure. The Alpine Independent School will allow local families further educational choices, while providing an additional encouragement for families considering re-locating to Golden.  The school will be locally managed and administered while actively encouraging participation from parents, families and the local community.

We look forward to seeing you at the Open House - Parent Information nights to be held at The College of the Rockies on Tuesday, March 15  and Wednesday, March 16 at 6.30pm - 8.30pm.  For further information please call 250-344-3202 or e-mail info@khciss.org.
