Theodorus Alouisius Paauw
1927 – 2007
Dick Paauw passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2007 in Golden, BC at the age of 80 years.
Dick was born June 21, 1927 in Spierdyk, Holland and immigrated to Canada and received his Canadian citizenship in 1954. He spent the next several years in Radium Hot Springs, BC alongside his brother, John, honing their carpentry skills throughout the valley on various building projects until moving to Golden in 1969. Continuing his passion, he assisted in building many of our buildings in Golden before moving on to employment with Evans Products, Donald Division from 1978 until his retirement in 1991.
Upon his retirement, he spent time coffeeing and solving the world’s problems with his buddies at their favorite coffee shop.
In 1997, Dick married the second love of his life, Martha Derr who became a jubilant and proud Mrs. Paauw.
Dick’s memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Martha; step-son, Alfred Derr and wife Vera of Golden, predeceased granddaughter, Crystal Cain; granddaughter, Tina (Peter Spehar) and great-grandson, Taylor Jacob of Calgary; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Paauw of Calgary and her children, Teresa Dewitt (Denver) of Beaverlodge, AB, George Paauw (Carol) of Calgary, AB, Veronica (Bruno Marti) of Kimberly, BC, Michael Paauw of Calgary, AB, Juliana (Bruce Minty) of Lac St. Marie, PQ and all of his great nieces and nephews. Dick is also survived by his sister, Francesco (Nel) of Holland.
Dick will be remembered as a quiet, gentle, kind-hearted soul who kept you on your toes due to his quick wit, big heart and the way he would always ask inquisitively, “So, what’s new?”.
A mass and celebration of Dicks life was held on December 27, 2007 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Golden BC.
Funeral arrangements were in the care of Hindman/Bowers Funeral Home, Golden.
