Rena Piggot passed away peacefully in Golden & District Hospital on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the age of 77 years.
The funeral service was held at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church in Golden on Monday afternoon, November 21st at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Judith Hardcastle officiating. The eulogy was presented by Rena’s three boys. Interment followed in the Golden Cemetery, with a reception in the Seniors Centre, catered by her friends of the Quilters Guild.
Born Catherine Mary McBee, Rena came to the valley with her family at the age of 8 years. She married Ken Piggot on September 3, 1955 and together they touched the hearts of the community. Rena loved the outdoors. Skiing, hiking, walking and nature were all very much part of her life. Rena was active with the Anglican Church, Rock & Fossil club, Museum Board and the Quilters Guild. She worked in a variety of jobs, including one of the last local telephone operators, and well over 20 years with Golden Hardware prior to her retirement. After retirement, exploring Canada and traveling worldwide became a passion.
Rena was predeceased by her parents, Loris and Fannie McBee and her brother Borden. She is survived by her dedicated and loving husband, Ken; three sons, Blair (Tanya) of Lethbridge, Bryce (Patti) of Golden, Glenn (Lori) of Courtenay; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; her sister, Glynna Pybus of Vancouver.
