R. J. 'Bud' Bowness

November 1, 2020

November 17, 1943 - November 1, 2020
With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of R J (Bud) Bowness on November 1, 2020, just shy of his 77th birthday. Bud was born on November 17, 1943, and spent most of his childhood in Kimberley, BC. It was there, he met and married his sweetheart Barb and welcomed their first two children before moving to Golden in 1972.
Bud was a jack of all trades. He provided sound advice and always had just the right part or tool in his shed for whatever vehicle, plumbing, electrical, or renovation emergency that arose. Throughout the years he creatively engineered ziplines, treehouses, solar pool heaters, and rope swings providing endless fun for the kids and grandkids.
Bud's love of his family was something to behold. He found pure joy in watching it grow over the years. His great sense of humor and kind natured teasing drew many laughs, and his "hot spoon trick" will not soon be forgotten.
Bud's diagnosis of a rare blood cancer never dampened his positive outlook on life. He never complained and instead insisted he was the luckiest man alive. For each appointment at the Tom Baker Centre and Golden Hospital, he arrived with a smile and made a new friend with a staff member before leaving.
He will always be remembered for his desire to make others smile, his adoration of children, strong commitment to family, and love of Heinz ketchup.
Bud is lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Barb; his children, Tricia (Jeff), Veronica (Doug), Kathy (Curt) and John (Christiann); his grandchildren, Darryl (Chantelle), Danny, Hannah (Dan), Jordan (Brittany), Jake (Krista), Carter, and Hunter; his great-grandchildren, Landon, Hailey, Nellie, Tyson, and Connor; his sister, Davene (Davin) Dunn; 2 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law in Kimberley, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bud's generous heart compelled him to lend a helping hand whenever he could to family, community members, and strangers alike. For those wishing to make a donation in his memory, please consider donating to a local mom, Katrin and her 3 year old son Siyam. Siyam was recently diagnosed with and is receiving treatment for leukemia. There is a Go Fund Me account set up entitled "3 year old Siyams Leukemia Treatment" or cheques can be made to Katrin Bakshi and mailed to Box 270, Golden, BC, V0A 1H0.
