Neta Merle Neale

Neta Merle Neale passed away at the Golden and District General Hospital on February 27, 2013, at the age of 85 years.

Neta was born and raised in Golden. In 1948 she married Jim Neale and moved to the family farm at Forde, west of Golden where they raised their family.

Neta looked after the household including gardening and canning and could be called upon to assist during haying season and to help Jim at his sawmill.

Once their children were grown, Neta and Jim bought a camper and boat and spent many weekends fishing at local lakes as well as fishing trips with Neta’s sister, Bernice and her husband, Ray.

In 1989 Neta travelled to England with her sister, Jean, realizing a lifelong dream to visit the birthplace of her parents. On this trip Neta was also able to meet her English cousins.

After Jim’s death Neta moved to Golden living the last six years at Mountain View Assisted Living where she enjoyed the company and companionship of the staff and residents there and renewing an old friendship with Kaye Soles.

She was predeceased by her infant son, Patrick in 1949, her father in 1962, her mother in 1987, and her husband, Jim, in 1988. She was also predeceased by her brothers Jim, Bert, Maurice, Fred, and Donald and her sister, Anna.

Neta is survived by her four children, Gord, Roberta (Pat), Leona (Terry), and Beth (Paul), 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren as well as siblings, Bernice, Jean, Bob, and Ray.

A family graveside service was held in the family plot in the Legion Cemetery, Golden, on March 6th with Jack Bowers the funeral celebrant.

The Funeral Service will be held from St. Andrew’s United Church, Golden, on Saturday afternoon, March 30, 2013 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Michael Hare officiating. A reception will follow in the Golden Senior Center, allowing time to continue sharing memories with the family.
