Neil Ellerton Colbourne

October 23, 2019
Neil passed away peacefully in Golden, B.C. on October 23, 2019 at the age of 87 when he joined his beloved wife Olive of 54 years. Neil is survived by his sister Myrna Parker (Ron), son David (Chris), daughter Darlene (Dave), grandchildren Scott (Jessica) Avery and Stephanie, Curtis (Danielle) Miles and Jaci (Kaleb) Kassius and Kalia.
Neil will be remembered for his quick wit and humour, he was always willing to dress up and get a laugh whenever the opportunity arose. Neil was born in Vancouver, B.C., started his career with CP Rail as a machinist and soon found that BC Hydro offered him an opportunity and lifestyle he was looking for. Neil moved his family to the small community of Bridge River and soon after bought property and built his home in Seton Portage. In his younger days Neil was an avid hunter, loved to hike the mountains and fish. Neil believed in community and worked as a first aid attendant for many years in his job and the community. He was awarded a medal for saving a coworker’s life from electrocution. Neil took an offer of early retirement at the age of 55 so he could enjoy life even more, taking up photography, lawn bowling and wood carving. His passion was birds, he spent countless hours in his workshop creating carvings and burning individual feathers into them. They were works of art which he often gave away to family and friends to be treasured by all that have them. According to Neil’s wishes, a memorial service is planned for the spring of 2020 where his ashes will be placed in the church garden at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church alongside Olive, his sister Evelyn and parents Henry and May.
The family requests any donations be made to the Marpole Museum Historical Society (The Colbourne House). We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff (family) at Durand Manor for their amazing care. Dad felt at home there enjoying his last year and a half surrounded by people that made him feel important and part of a greater family. You will all hold a special place in our hearts.
