February 14, 1935 to January 26, 2017
Born in Dublin, Ireland on February 14, 1935, Rita Klafki was the fifth of nine children in
the family of Michael and Margaret Nolan.
In the spring of 1957, Rita ventured across the Atlantic to the Rocky Mountains of
Canada to join her sisters, Nellie and Mary, in Golden, B.C. Here she met and married
Leo Klafki, a young German recently arrived in Canada. Together they built a full and
rich life, raising six children: Trudy, Jenny, Greg, Stephan, Patricia and Richard.
Rita was a devoted wife and dedicated mother. She was strong. She was kind. She was
funny. On January 26th, 2017, with her family at her side, she passed away peacefully
at the age of 81.
She is survived by Leo, her husband of 58 years; her sisters: Mary Spaens, Kitty Carroll
and Joan Nolan; her children: Trudy (Chris), Jenny, Greg (Leslie), Stephan (Laura),
Patricia and Richard; her seven grandchildren: Jaret, Dawn, Spencer, Ty, Markie, Anya
and Nadia, as well as numerous nephews and nieces across Canada, Ireland and

A prayer service will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Golden, BC on Friday, February 3rd at 7:00 pm followed by Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the Golden Community Cemetery.
