Mrs. Lena Vera Phillips passed away at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, B.C. on Sunday, June 10th, 2007 at the age of 72 years. Memorial funeral service was held from St. Andrew’s United Church, Golden on Saturday afternoon, June 16th with Kim Haslebacher officiating. Cremation with interment of the cremated remains in the family plot of Mountain View (Legion) Cemetery, Golden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Building Fund of St. Andrew’s United Church, Golden; The Golden Figure Skating Club; B.C. Heart & Stroke Foundation, Box 612, Golden, B.C. V0A 1H0; to the Scleroderma Association of B.C., P.O. Box 218, Delta Main, Delta, B.C. V4K 3N7 or to the Kidney Foundation, in memory of Lena.
Lena was born in Golden, B.C. on December 24, 1934 and had been a life-long resident. She was a long-time devoted member of St. Andrew’s United Church. Lena was a member of the Figure Skating Club for over 25 years and provided dedicated service to the club. She loved the history of Golden and the Golden Museum and anything to do with the Monarchy – she was loyal to the Queen. During Lena’s life she babysat numerous children who became like her own. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and her family was her number one priority in life.
Lena was predeceased by her husband Ivan in 1999. She is survived by two daughters: Janet (Robert) Anderson of Golden and Nina Mitchell of Golden; son-in-law Neil Mitchell of Golden; four grandchildren: Darcy Anderson of Calgary, Katie Anderson of Golden, Selena & Nakita Mitchell of Golden; one brother George (Selma-Jo) Richards of Vancouver; four sisters: Annie Wilson of Golden, Betty Holland of Golden, Bertha (Ted) Brecknell of Salmon Arm and Polly Potter of Golden; Rick Leon of Calgary – the son they never had; numerous nieces & nephews and her very important large extended family and many friends.
Arrangements were in the care of Hindman Bowers Funeral Home, Golden.
