Laurie Mireille Neville

Laurie Mireille Neville, 90, passed away quietly on April 11, 2016, at her residence in Nanaimo, BC with her daughters Kerrie (Davis) and Chrys-Ellen at her side.

Laurie, one of four siblings, (Suzanne and Rachelle, deceased) was born in Salmon Arm, BC on September 15, 1925 to Mary and Leighton Hart. In 1945, Laurie moved to Golden, BC to accept a teaching position. It was there, on her birthday, that she met Thomas Archer Neville. Laurie and Tom were married in 1948 adn spent 50 wonderful years together.

They raised three daughters, Judy (Hudson) deceased, Kerrie (Davis) and Chrys-Ellen.

Laurie continued to teach for many years in Golden. Her love of teaching was well known and she continuously brought new and exciting teaching methods into her classroom. She followed the successes of her students through grade school and beyond and it was many years after she retired that she sent graduation cards to the last of the children she had taught in her Kindergarten class.

Laurie was also very active in the community including the Girl Guides of Canada, Order of the Eastern Star, and many other community festivities, parades and events.

Laurie and Tom moved to Deep Bay on Vancouver Island in 1989 shortly after Laurie retired from teaching.They purchased a home on the ocean where they moored their boat, spent time fishing, enjoyed their beautiful gardens and had many visits from family and friends. They also enjoyed travelling and visited many parts of the world. Family was very important to them and they had a tradition of meeting with all the family at their property on the Shuswap Lake every summer.

Laurie said goodbye to her partner in life, Tom, on September 16, 1998. Following his passing, she remained in Deep Bay where she had made many good friends. She continued to garden and spend time with family and was active with her painting and Tai Chi groups. Laurie also continued to travel on the world trips with her daughters and their families. To celebrate her 80th birthday she treated the entire family to an Alaskan Cruise.

In 2010 Laurie moved to a senior residence, “Berwick on the Lake”, in Nanaimo, BC. She had a beautiful view of Long Lake and was close to her youngest daughter, Chrys-Ellen, and her family. Laurie will always be remembered as a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, teacher, gardener, community supporter and friend. She will especially be remembered for her ability to find the sunshine in every day and every one and for her encouraging and supportive attitude toward those she knew.

Laurie is survived by her daughters Kerrie Davis and Chrys-Ellen Neville, her nine grandchildren (Kyra Coco (Hudson), Danya Hudson, Reagen Dhillon (Hudson), Chelsey Hudson, Lara Davis, Piper Davis, Spencer Davis, Marissa Kingzett, Tiernan Kingzett, her five great grandchildren (Roma & Luca (Coco), Simran & Nihal (Dhillon) & Miles (Mulhall) and her brother and sister-in-law Robin and Jay Hart.

Memorial Services for Laurie will be held at 2:00pm on August 20, 2016, at the Golden, BC Senior’s Centre. Tea will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any Hospice or Children’s Hospital.
