In Loving Memory
Twenty five year Powell River resident Joyce Thompson passed away peacefully at home in her sleep surrounded by her family in the early morning hours of November 13, 2007 following a valiant battle with cancer.
Joyce was born in 1936 and raised in Cloverdale BC. She attended UBC majoring in Home Economics and married Randy Thompson in 1957. Together they moved to Golden, British Columbia where they had five children. During this period they owned/operated Mary’s Motel and were involved and committed to that community. While in Golden, Joyce was employed with the BC Forest Services and earned her Certified General Accountant (CGA) degree.
She and Randy sold their motel and moved to Powell River in 1983. They chose Powell River for its sense of community and outdoor pursuits but mostly because its climate allowed Joyce to rekindle her love of gardening. Besides gardening, hiking, skiing, kayaking, and dancing, Joyce loved supporting cultural and Christian events.
To those who knew her, Joyce was a strong, compassionate, caring individual who made everyone’s life richer and full of love.
Joyce is survived by her husband Randy, her children Deanna, Darci and husband Bill, Dean and wife Michele, Dale and Jennifer; her grandsons Scott and Reese; as well as many relatives and friends.
A celebration of Joyce’s life was held on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the Westview Baptist Church.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
