JOSEPH (BERNIE) COULOMBE of Golden, British Columbia passed away peacefully at 9:00 a.m. Monday, October 4th, 2010 in the comforting care of the staff at Golden & District General Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. Bernie, to all who knew him, was lovingly supported by his family and friends prior to and during his last days. He was 65 years young at the time of his passing.
Bernie was predeceased by his mother, Blanche (nee Rear), father, Ubald, and sister, Bea. He is survived by his sons, Bradley, Brian, his only grandson, Ryan, and his cat Spazzo. Bernie was one of seven brothers and sisters: Diane (Doug), Bea (Eddy), Louis (Lisa), Linda (Elroy), Gordon (Nitro), and Paul (Diane).
He was Uncle to Sean, Genene, Pattie, Kelly, Todd, Samantha, Charlene, Louis, Derek, Jerome, Steve, Dana, Jennifer, Derrick and Kristen, and Great Uncle to Steven, Rebecca, Shianne, Dillon, Shawnene, Tristin, Daniel, Abby, Mark, Rylie, Jesse, Aiden and Connor.
Bernie was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, August 30th, 1945. Third of seven children, he moved to Toronto by train at the age of 12. He grew up in Regent Park and Parkdale areas drove a taxi and dispatched for 20+ years. Bernie was married to Bonnie Macdonald for 8 years. In 1989, he moved to Golden, and became a loaderman. He loved playing golf, poker, bowling and billiards. For many years he was a member of the Golden Golf Course, and was a daily player.
A celebration of Bernie’s life will be held on Saturday, October 16th, 2010 at 914 Canyon Creek Rd, Nicholson, from 1-4 p.m. A pot luck dinner will be provided. Ph. # 250-344-6319.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bernie’s name to your local S.P.C.A. or Animal Shelter.
Heart felt thanks go to Dr. Tan, Dr. Larson Soles, Kathy Pederson and all the nursing staff for their compassionate care second to none.
