Mr. John Provenzano passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Golden and District General Hospital on Wednesday, November 21st, 2007 at the age of 58 years.
John was born in Savuto di Cleto, Italy on April 17, 1949 and had been a long-time resident of Golden. John enjoyed the outdoors. He liked to go on vacation, especially by land and loved going to the beach and being in the sun. John’s favourite destination was Italy and he was especially fond of figs. He was a great handyman who loved to build things with wood, including renovating his own home. John especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He was owner/operator of Papa John’s Restaurant for many years and earned the nickname “Papa John.”
John was predeceased by his father Emilio in October, 2007 and by his aunt Angelina Fata in 2006. He is survived by his wife Ida; mother Rosina Provenzano: three children: Nancy Provenzano Lerch, Rosie Provenzano and Andrew Provenzano; three grandchildren: Matthew Lerch, Brandon Lerch, Ariana Lerch plus one on the way, all of Golden; brother Fred (Lina) Provenzano; nieces and nephews: Emilio (Lisa) Provenzano, Jason Provenzano, Jessica Provenzano and John (Fiona) Provenzano, John’s namesake and Godchild, all of Calgary.
Prayers will be recited from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Golden on Friday evening, November 30th at 8 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday afternoon, December 1st at 2 p.m. with Father John Kellogg celebrant. Pallbearers will be: Emilio Provenzano, Jason Provenzano, John Provenzano, Stuart Robinson, Mike Lerch and Jared Wood. Honorary pallbearers will be: Mario Mastroianni, Mario Mastroianni Jr, Frank Mastroianni, Tony Mastroianni, Frank Folino, Harry Dimaulo, Mario Pecora, Pasquale Longo, Gino Folino, and Nick Tsai. Interment will follow at the Golden Community Cemetery.
