Mr. John Dewar passed away at the Golden and District General Hospital on Saturday, November 17th, 2007 at the age of 79 years. A Celebration of Life Service was held from the Golden Senior’s Center on Sunday afternoon, November 25th with Sunni Shular officiating. Pallbearers were Dave Graham, Gareth Melville, John Melville, John Dewar, Darrell Rogalsky and Allan Rogalsky. Cremation followed the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Golden & District Hospice & Palliative Care Society, P.O. Box 1585, Golden, B.C. V0A 1H0, in memory of John.
John was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland on April 28, 1928 and had been a resident of Golden since 1975. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star as well as Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #122. John enjoyed hockey, curling, golfing and reading history. He was a former coach and referee of both hockey and soccer. John was an avid Calgary Flames fan. He was an excellent cook. He enjoyed people and the public part of his business ventures.
John was predeceased by his siblings: Alex Dewar, Jean Swindale and Liz Melville and by his sister-in-law, Mary Clayton. He is survived by his wife Lil of Golden; siblings: David Dewar, Kathy Kirk and Nan Marshall of Fife, Scotland and Mima Hunter of Ireland; sisters-in-law: Anna Wentzell of Prince George, Alvina (Joseph) Greengrass of Chilliwack; brothers-in-law: Jacob (Agnes) Wilms of Hebert, Saskatchewan, Frank Rogalsky of Edmonton, Rudy (Sharon) Rogalsky of Hornby Island as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were in the care of Hindman Bowers Funeral Home, Golden.
