We are saddened to announce the passing of Jim Murphy on 7/7/22, at 77 years of age. Jim was a much loved husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend.
With a cheeky grin and twinkle in his eye, he made the most of every day and opportunity, happiest with Heather at his side. He was always ready to lend a helping hand or an ear to listen, tell a good joke or story, and offer his opinion!
Jim was born and raised in Kimberley BC. In his early years, he played hockey for Notre Dame University in Nelson BC, flew fire spotting planes with the BC Forest Service, drove ambulance and worked as a hospital administrator. In 1973 he married the love of his life, Heather. Together they raised their 4 children in Golden, sharing their love of the outdoors and travel. In 1986, Jim followed his entrepreneurial heart and opened Kinbasket Outdoors, but found his real passion on the slopes of Whitetooth, providing ski lessons and rental gear for many locals and tourists. In the summer, he owned and operated Glacier Raft Company for 20 years with his family, creating many lifetime memories for his guides and clients. His guides held a special place in his heart, and were like extended family. Jim loved traveling with Heather; they camped throughout Canada and the US, and explored many parts of Europe, Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand. Jim also enjoyed hunting and trekking up mountains with his brother, canoe trips with Heather, meeting up with friends at the Legion, or just sitting on his stoop with a cold one, admiring the mountain views.
Left with cherished memories are his wife of 49 years Heather, children Bridget (Gary), Anne (Jim), Peter (Kellie) and Elizabeth (Robbie), grandchildren Steven, Gabriella & Ben, Jacob & Megan, Alexis, Devon & Wes, Roman, Tristan & Dani, siblings John & Dianne Murphy and Kathleen & Don Lawson, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends within the community and worldwide.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Agnes, brother Tom, sister Patricia, nephews Tom and James, and special granddaughter Rian.
The Murphys are forever grateful to the Golden medical community of doctors, nurses, therapists, and home support for enabling Jim to remain safe and comfortable at home.
A heartfelt thank you to our many wonderful friends and family for the non-stop love and care during this difficult time.
