Gunnar Otto Malberg
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gunnar Malberg, who passed away suddenly at his home in Parson on Sunday, October 30th, 2016.
Gunnar was born in Invermere on May 3, 1949 and raised in Brisco. He spent most of his life in Parson, where he worked primarily in the logging industry.
A family man, he will be greatly missed by his wife Shirley of 47 years, daughter Cheryl (Randy), grandchildren Vanessa (Ryan) and Devon, son Marvin (Nicki), grandchildren Alexis (Dyson), Ty and Ashley, and many extended family and friends.
He had many roles over the years, among them he was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a fiercely proud grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family and he was a friend to many.
With his great love for the outdoors, Gunnar led a full life, and spent much of his time farming and gardening. Always keen to welcome others into their home, no matter the occasion, he was especially fond of cooking, whether at home or camping.
He had a fantastic sense of humour together with a true appreciation for practical jokes. He also had a real love for the holidays, evident by his annual outdoor display of Christmas lights that seemed to grow each year.
Gunnar held a special place in his heart for kids, and he was affectionately known to many as ‘Papa Gunnar.’ He touched the lives of young people in a way that won’t be soon forgotten.
Thinking of you,
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday,
and the day before that too,
We’ll think about you tomorrow
and as the years come and go.
We’ll think about you forever,
because we loved you so.
Your life was a blessing
Your memory a treasure
You are loved beyond words
And missed beyond measure.
A Celebration of Life was held at the Parson Community Hall on Nov. 5, 2016.
