Gordon Speakman Ewing
passed away on July 25, 2007 at the age of 80 years at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. He was predeceased by his loving wife Ora (nee Richmond), parents William and Ellen Ewing, brother Donald, sister Issabell Benn and son in-law Terry DeRoven.
He is survived by his sisters Mary, Edna, Lulabell, brothers James and Norman; his children Sarah DeRoven, Gloria (Fred) Raymond, son Bill, 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Born on July 21, 1927 in Chatham, Ontario, he spent most of his life on the family farm near Wallaceburg. He moved to Golden, B.C. on February 23, 1982 to live with his son Bill after he retired. He was known to almost everyone in the Golden area as ‘Gramps’ or ‘Grandpa’. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed working on his puzzle books and having coffee with friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A small service will be held in Golden at the Hindman-Bowers Funeral Home on Friday August 3, 2007 at 2:00pm with a tea to follow at the Golden Legion Hall at 3:00pm. Family Services will be held in Wallaceburg, Ontario, with internment at the Wallaceburg Cemetary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on behalf of Gordon to the Canadian Cancer Society or Heart & Stroke Foundation, which he strongly supported.
