At the age of 88, George passed away peacefully with the love of family by his side on

February 9, 2011. George was born in Taishan, Guangdong, China and immigrated to Golden BC where he was a successful business owner and respected member of the community. Initially he and his father operated the restaurant in the Queen’s Hotel. Along with new partners, George then ran the Mountaineer restaurant in the Fridhem Hotel. Finally, he was sole owner and operator of George’s Café and Confectionary. Even though he worked long and hard hours, he made time to teach his children valuable life skills and took time to welcome old and new friends with a coffee or two at the café. Upon retiring to the lower mainland, he had many years of joy cultivating his numerous interests and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered and admired for his artistic endeavours in Chinese calligraphy and bonsai as well as for his craftsmanship, and his culinary skills. George will be deeply missed by his surviving family: devoted wife Ngan Seung; children, Peter (Anly), Roy (Cathy), Danny (Cindy), Colleen, Mary (Steve), Linda; grandchildren, Christina, Elliott, Geoffrey, Andrew, Justin, Amy; sister Wong So Ying, sister-in-law Pearl and many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his brother Sam. The funeral service took place in Vancouver at Glenhaven Funeral Home on Saturday February 19th, 2011.
