It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing away of Filomena Alves on January 14th, 2022 at the age of 67.
Filomena De Lourdes Alves was born in Pico de Pedra, Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal on April 1st, 1954. She immigrated from Portugal to Canada in 1965 when she was 11 years old. Filomena made her home in Golden for 56 years in which she raised her family.
Filomena had a deep devotion to her family, friends, and her catholic religion. She will always be remembered for being kind, loving, caring, passionate, and sincere. Filomena was a selfless person always thinking of others before herself. She was beautiful inside and out. She had a great devotion to her catholic religion and believed it was instrumental in helping her overcome her many challenges she had in life.
She will remain the heart and soul of this family. She taught us the true meaning of what a family truly is through her unconditional love and caring ways.
Filomena leaves behind: two children; Kim (Bryna) Alves of Golden, BC and Chris (Renell) Alves of Black Diamond, AB. Her sister Maria (Erle) Jones of Golden, BC, and her brother Francisco Silva of Calgary, AB. Her 5 grandchildren; Lyra Freeman-Alves, Liam Freeman, Arlyn Freeman of Golden, BC and Kylar Alves, Perryn Alves of Black Diamond, AB.
Her 6 nieces and nephews; Brittany Jones, Jarred (Megan) Jones, Raquel (Ryan) Silva, Tina (Jeff) Silva of Calgary, AB and Derrick (Justin) Jones, Danielle (Edison) Silva of Edmonton, AB.
Filomena is predeceased by her mother Maria De Sousa, and her father Jose De Sousa.
Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Parish on Saturday, January 22nd with Fr. Joseph Kizhakethottathil
