Mrs. Dorothy Gathergood passed away at Durand Manor, Golden on Wednesday, July 26th, 2006 at the age of 86 years. A memorial service was held from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Golden on Saturday afternoon, July 29th, 2006
Dorothy was born in Chester, Cheshire, England on June 7, 1920 and had lived in Golden for the past 39 years. She served with the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force in Coastal Command from 1939 to 1945. Dorothy attended teachers’ college and started teaching in 1947. She was a world traveller who spent many years in various locations in Asia, Middle East and Europe. Dorothy was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness in Cyprus on October 21, 1961. She was an accomplished artist in several mediums, wrote poetry and stories, played the violin and enjoyed acting and producing in theatricals. Dorothy was an excellent cook, specializing in traditional English desserts and overseas cuisine.
Dorothy was predeceased by her sister Georgina in 1992 and brother-in-law Jim in 1982. She is survived by her husband Bert of Golden; one son Toby (Tammy) Gathergood of Salmon Arm; six grandchildren: Tiana of Maple Ridge, Misty of Coquitlam, Fathom, Stirling, Matrix and Samoa, all of Salmon Arm; great grandsons Caleb and Noah of Maple Ridge; one brother, Kelvin Tanton of Ireland; nieces and nephews: Linda (John) in England, Elaine in Ireland, Merrick Bent of Australia, Hillary of England and Jamie of England.
