Resting in the arms of our Lord, Doris Irene Oke (nee Kirby), in her 85th year,on November 15, 2006 at Golden, BC.
Born in Oshawa, ON, on January 28, 1921. Doris was active in her church/youth club in Oshawa at St. Stephen’s United Church and a recent member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Golden. Over the years, Doris took part in many community activities. She was employed as a young domestic helper; then retail sales department head, for many years. Secretarial work , an aquadic instructor for disabled children, of which she was most proud and a short stint in the Militia. Doris loved to sew, camp, walk in the woods with family, a good card game, a good laugh and her night at bingo with her many friends. Her dearest love was doing for others. She was always there with a ready solution for the latest problem.
She was a loving, protective Mother and good friend. She will be sadly missed by her family, Son, Wayne Craggs(Kay), Shannonville, ON: daughter, Nancy Plourd, Golden, BC: son, Randy Craggs(Linda), Madoc, ON: Sisters, Margaret Shemilt(Edward), Helen Foskett; Grandchildren Kirby Plourd, April Shular(Dale),Troy Plourd(Terri), Todd Plourd, Kevin Craggs(Denise), Shawn Craggs(Sherri), Kristy Mitchell(Carl), Jimmy Craggs, Shannon Lewis(Derrick). Great-grandchildren number 12. Many nieces and nephews and their families; extended family members, Denise and Peter Shular and family and ever-faithfull friend, Mary Clampett.
Pre-deceased by her first husband, John Taylor Craggs(Oshawa, ON): her second husband, Allan Howard Oke(Port Perry, ON): brother, Bill Kirby(Alliston, ON) and sister, Marilyn Fenton(Oshawa, ON), niece, Carol Murphy(Bomanville, ON); brother-in-law, Lenard Foskett (Harwood, ON.)
A Memorial service was held at St Andrew’s United Church, on November 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
