David (Dave) Gordon "Mr. G" Grant

September 21, 1955 – September 30, 2018
Dave’s long, hard battle with cancer came to a peaceful end with friends and family around. He closed his eyes for a final time on September 30, 2018 at 63 years of age.

He was born September 21, 1955 in Nelson BC, to Gordon and June Grant. Dave was the second of four children that included Penny, Brian and Heather. After only one year in Nelson, the family moved to Kamloops where they lived close to grandparents – Gwladys Dudgeon and Gordon and Elizabeth Grant. In 1965 the family moved once again, this time to Calgary AB. While in Scouting, School, and Lacrosse as a youth, Dave cemented many incredible friendships along the way.

Started his career with CP Rail 1973 as a labourer, apprenticed as an Electrician and enjoyed working with his father in Calgary AB at Allyth Shops, while studying Electrical Engineering at SAlT. In 1973 Dave met Linda and they married 1976, and fathered son Derrick J 1978. In 1979 Moved his young family to Lethbridge AB, to continue his career and fathered his second son Douglas R 1979. While in Lethbridge, Dave joined the Cubs & Boy Scouts with his sons, as their leader. He worked on building camps, events/programs, jamborees, and youth development.

In 1994 he moved his family to Golden BC, continuing his career with CP Rail and volunteer work in Scouting. He enjoyed a good glass of Scotch and shared sparingly with his friends and family. He also loved chasing a little white ball, some call it Golf. Dave & Linda started the Golden Haggis Appreciation Society and he helped start the Golden & Area Bagpipe Band. Many have been recipients of his wood & metal working talents over the years. He retired after 37yrs with CP Rail 2010.

In life, on the job & retirement Dave loved travelling to and exploring new lands, local and abroad. He enjoyed mentoring many wonderful young people and delighted in their accomplishments along the way. He gave a helping hand to many whom asked, leaving an impact on everyone around him. His beacon will be greatly missed by far and wide.

Memorial service will be held 1 pm, Sunday Oct 28, 2018 at the Golden Civic Centre.

Dave’s wish was in lieu of flowers, for donations to be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
