December 26, 1931 – April 20, 2019
Born in Princeton, BC Bob was the oldest of three children born to George and Mary Keenleyside. He grew up in Golden, a fierce competitor at Badminton, apprentice butcher, and all around avid athlete. He scooped up Evelyn Crandlemire in high school and they were married in October, 1955.
He was always an entrepreneur (a fancy way of saying he couldn’t take orders well) operating everything from butcher shops to building supply stores in both Revelstoke and Golden. When Bob “retired” he sold the flooring and paint side of the business to one of his sons. That did not mean he stopped going to work however. He still showed up, 6 days a week, to play solitaire in the office and chat with all the long-time customers.
He and Evelyn had 5 children and have made family and community their purpose. You can see Bob’s hand in Golden’s development in nearly every corner.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn, his sister, Shirley Ayers of Didsbury, AB, his 5 children, Nola, Debra, George (Elaine), Kara, (Garvan) and Scott (Lynette), all of Golden, ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 1 pm at the Civic Center. We invite anyone with a connection to Bob and the Keenleyside family to join us. In lieu of flowers the family graciously asks for donations to be made to the Crandlemire-Keenleyside Family Legacy Fund with the Golden & District Community Foundation.
Online condolences may be sent to Bob’s family through his obituary at www.hindmanbowersfuneralhome.com.
