Alice May Berscheid passed away at the Golden & District General Hospital on Friday, June 24th, 2011 at the age of 93 years. A Memorial Service was held at the Golden Senior’s Center on Thursday afternoon, June 30th with family and friends officiating.
Alice was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan on November 22, 1917 and had been a resident of Golden for the past three years. She enjoyed being around family and friends. If Alice knew company was coming she always had fresh homemade buns waiting. Her hobbies were crocheting and gardening and she could make anything grow. Alice was self educated and had a great memory. She loved to read, liked to do crossword puzzles and enjoyed playing crib.
Alice was the oldest in a family of 15 children. She was predeceased by her husband Ed Berscheid in 1979; daughter Arlene in 1940, son Marvin in 1982, daughter Donna in 2000 and grandson Norman in 2000; siblings: Gladys, Gordon, Irene, Louie, Johnny, Tommy, Buddy and Jerry. She is survived by three children: Maurice (Florence) Ditto of Vulcan, Alberta, Sharon (Wayne) Woodman of Golden and Maxine (Ron) Rikley of Kelowna; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; siblings: Winnie Hargrove of Chilliwack, Hilda (Mel) Commons of Powell River, Harold (Ester) Palmer of Enderby, Delores (Ollie) Eide of Terrace, Donna Lee of Maple Ridge and Linda (Gilbert) Osmond of Maple Ridge as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
