There was a Celebration of Life for Alice Bardarson held at the Senior’s Centre on October 21st, 2008. Alice passed away peacefully Thursday, October 16th, 2008 at Henry M. Durand Manor, just a few days after her 94th birthday. She was predeceased by her husband Sigidur (Siggi) Bardarson and their eldest son Sam Bardarson.
She is suvived by her children, Eric (Barbara) Bardarson of Burns Lake, BC; David (Vangie) Bardarson of Arborg, Manitoba; Leonard (Lorraine) Bardarson of Arborg Manitoba; Margaret Bardarson of Golden, BC; Kenneth aka Barney (Denys) Bardarson of Golden, BC; Gayle (Bill) Lake of Canal Flats, BC; Carol Bardarson, daughter-in-law of Duncan, BC and by 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
In the earlier years Alice and her young family lived at Hnausa, Manitoba through many a hardship, but in July of 1961 a big decision was made to move to the land of opportunity – Golden, BC. Mom’s door was always open and welcoming and whoever came for a visit, enjoyed a great cup of coffee and bite to eat, which quite often was a slice of her delicious homemade bread. Her greatest love was her family and children – she babysat many children, over the years, in the home that her husband Sam had built. Another way of helping bring in a income, was renting ou the basement suite to many of the new arrivals to the Golden RCMP Detachment. Alice was also a matron at the RCMP station and when she retired, they had a party in her honor and she was given a plaque, with the inscription “Mountie Mom”.
Mom has left us with many wonderful memories and a legacy that will continue on thru the following generations. She will be missed with heartfelt love.
Upon the family’s request, those who wish to make a donation in Alice Bardarson’s memory, they may do so to the local Henry M. Durand Foundation:
