In loving memory ~
Alec was born in Stalybridge, Cheshire, UK to Ethel and Hargreaves Heywood. Alec's father was a cotton mill foreman. Alec went to the County Grammar School in Hyde, Cheshire. Alec went on to get his teachers degree at Loughborough College, the course was condensed from 4-2 years, as he was required to go into the army for 2 years. He was a second lieutenant, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Corps. Alec then married his first wife Patricia, they had two children, Lesley and Julian.
Alec returned to The County Grammar School in Hyde where he taught for 16 years. Alec taught metalwork, woodwork, English Lit and History. He was promoted to head of the metalwork dept. During this time, for 6 years Alec was a Great Britain International at pistol shooting for which he won many medals. He became one of the foremost pistol smiths in the country and vetted the international team's weapons. Alec also became a silver smith.
Alec came to Canada in 1970 to teach at Lakes District Secondary in Burns Lake, B.C. He met his wife Lyn there and they were married in August 1972. They then went to teach in Sparwood, then Golden, BC high schools. They bought their property in Moberly in 1975 where they lived until 2021, when they went into Durand Manor in Golden.
Alec loved cats and dogs, working on the house and in his shop. He also travelled to various countries, The Whyte Railroad in the Yukon and across Canada in their motorhome. Alec is predeceased by his wife Lyn, his parents and sister, Hazel.

A celebration of Alec and Lyn's lives will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 1:30 pm at the chapel of Hindman Bowers Funeral Home.
