Al passed away May 16, 2010 in Kamloops, B.C. at the age of 91 years after a short battle with brain cancer.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Canadian Artillery Division in Italy, England, Holland and Germany. He was a member of The Legion and The Lions Club for many years. He leaves behind a legacy with many years of construction and self taught finishing carpentry he enjoyed in Edmonton, Alberta, as well as in Golden, Kamloops and Sorrento, B.C.
Al is predeceased by his parents Ed and Fabiola (Leblanc) Bernier, sisters Irene Pelletier and Germaine Scott, his first wife Lena Bilawchuk and daughter Barbara Mae, his wife Edna (Loney) of 28 years, and stepdaughter Theresa Reid.
He is sadly missed by sisters Grace Mathieu, Ida Patenaude and Rachel Thompson, Daughters Sherron Wehrhahn (Bud), Debbie Czajkowski (Gary) and son Andy Bernier (Judy), stepdaughters Iris Johnson (Richard), Wendy Galligan (Mansen), Leslie Lapp (Kent) and Beth Russell (Earl), and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Al was cremated in Kamloops after a candlelight service. A memorial service will be held at the OAPO in Sorrento, B.C. August 28, 2010, 1 p.m. with The Reverand Bruce Chalmers officiating. Internment to follow at St. Mary’s Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Kamloops Hospice Association, where Al spent his last days in very pleasant surroundings with the most compassionate care.
