On 2011-04-02 at approx. 0900 hrs, the Golden RCMP responded to a three-vehicle motor vehicle incident on Hwy #1 approx 35km west of Golden, BC.

Early investigation reveals a westbound travelling mini-van lost control, crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound travelling commercial vehicle. As a result of this collision, the mini-van was then forced into a second vehicle also travelling west.

The drivers of both the second westbound vehicle and the commercial vehicle were uninjured.  One of the passengers in the mini-van, a 34-years-old woman from Surrey, BC was deceased at scene. The driver of the mini-van was air lifted to the Golden General Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Two young children, also passengers in the mini-van were transported to the Golden General Hospital via ground ambulance with one suffering from non-life threatening injuries and the second badly shaken.

Conditions at the time involved extreme winter driving conditions including poor visibility, heavy snowfall and snow and slush covered roads.  Causal factors at this time appear to be road conditions, speed and inadequate tires.

The name of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending the notification of the next of kin. The RCMP and BC Coroner’s office are continuing the investigation.
