An incident in the community cause all three local schools to be placed in a “hold and secure” on Friday afternoon.

Alexander Park Elementary, Lady Grey Elementary, and Golden Secondary School kept their front doors locked during the school day, and continued “business as usual” on school grounds, said School District 6 superintendant Paul Carriere.

E-mails sent to parents at the schools noted that additional supervision was provided after school on school grounds.

The incident has now been resolved, and Golden-Field RCMP are involved with the situation.

“There is RCMP involvement in this. It is a person in the community that is not attending school, whose behaviour was a concern,” Carriere said. “RCMP were called, and were involved in the situation very quickly. No one was harmed, and we simply conducted business as usual at the schools, but just as a precautionary measure, locked the doors.”

One of the reasons parents are informed about incidents like these is to alleviate any confusion about the goings on at the schools, and explain the parents there is a reason for the locked doors.

“It’s important when these things happen that we do some communication around it,” Carriere said.

Parents were notified around 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon about the “hold and secure” precautions taken at each of the schools.

“Everyone is safe, and the matter has been resolved,” Carriere said.
