Golden/Field RCMP along with two members of the E Division Major Crime Unit Interview Team recently arrested a 19-year-old local male regarding a sexual assault that occurred last July 2010.

On July 13, 2010, a woman from Vancouver was walking on the trail above Reflection Lake when a male with a cell phone approached her; the male asked her if she had dropped it and she replied she did not.

As the victim assisted the male by looking through the contacts in the phone to see if an owner could be identified, the male assailant shoved her into the bushes and sexually assaulted her. The victim’s statement resulted in a quick identification of the suspect. Through the course of a year, Golden/Field RCMP continued to investigate and gather evidence that led to the arrest of this male on Aug. 31, 2011.

During the course of this investigation, evidence suggested that this suspect may be responsible for a sexual assault that occurred in Golden on Sept. 28, 2009.

At that time, a female was walking on the pedestrian walkway beside Country Wide Home Furnishings when a male came up behind her and asked her if she dropped something.

When the female looked back to see what she had dropped, the male pulled her pants down and attacked her. The female was able to defend herself against the attack at which point the male left.

No verdict has yet to be released on the case at the time of print.
