Highway 1 will be closed this afternoon east of Golden, from Field to the B.C./Alberta border, in both directions.
The closure is for planned avalanche control work, extending for just over 16 kilometers through Yoho national park.
The work is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. MST on Tuesday, Jan. 18, and will close the highway until approximately 3:45 p.m. MST.
An update will be provided at that time as to if the highway will be able to reopen as scheduled.
Compact snow along the highway has been reported, making the highway slushy with some slippery sections. Adjust driving to winter driving conditions and travel with caution.
