Heavy snowfall expected in Rogers Pass today

Travellers are expected to plan accordingly as up to 35 centimetres of snow are expected to fall in Rogers Pass.

A heavy snowfall warning has been issued for the Rogers Pass area today (Jan. 16). The Trans Canada Highway is expected to see up to 35 centimetres of snow.

Environment Canada Forecasts are calling for a  storm to pass through the area today until Friday, bringing a mix of snow and rain with mild temperatures. This heavy snowfall and rain  could result in possible delays or possible Avalanche control closure and challenging driving conditions as the storm passes through. Please be assured that Emcon Services is well-prepared for this event with equipment and resources already in place and additional resources on standby.

Snow will begin near noon today across Rogers Pass as a series of Pacific fronts move across the region.

The snow will intensify tonight and likely persist through Tuesday. Snowfall accumulations of up to 45 cm can be expected by Tuesday morning.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
