Golden driver killed in accident in Northern Alberta

A 37-year-old man from Golden has died as the result of a head-on collision in Alberta on November 7.

The accident occured eight kilometres from Boyd, AB on Highway 63 at around 8 p.m. yesterday.

Two vehicles were involved in the accident on the Northern Alberta highway, which is commonly referred to as the “highway of death.” The highway has earned the reputation due to the high number of fatal accidents that occur.

The highway runs between Edmonton and Fort McMurray, and is a common route for people who are travelling to and from work in Northern Alberta.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that a pickup truck was heading northbound on Highway 63 when it crossed over the centre line and collided head on with a southbound semi truck.

The 37-year-old man from Golden was pronounced dead at the scene.

Boyle RCMP and RCMP Collision Analysts continue to investigate the accident.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this time,” RCMP said in a statement on Thursday.

The name of the man will not be released.
