The BC CDC released updated data on case counts in Golden over the weekend, with seven cases in the Golden region between Jan. 3 and Jan. 9.
It shows a sharp decrease in cases from the 14 cases from the week prior.
This puts Golden in the 10.1-15.0 cases per population of 100,000.
At this rate per capita, Golden remains one of the regions with the most dense rate of cases, with regions like Windermere and Fernie coming in at under 5 cases per 100,000 and Kimberley reporting zero cases during that time frame.
Revelstoke remains in the >20 per 100,000 category, with 16 cases. Despite this, the curve is flattening in Revelstoke, with almost half as many new cases from the week prior.
The first week of 2021 saw a larger increase in the number of COVID-19 cases than was reported in the last week of 2020 for the North Okanagan and Shuswap.
Vaccinations have started in Golden for the most vulnerable populations in town as the immunization process ramps up as January winds down.
