CSRD approves grants for local initiatives

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District will give out more than $100,000 in grant-in-aid money to community groups throughout the region.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District will give out more than $100,000 in grant-in-aid money to community groups throughout the region.

Last week, the CSRD board of directors approved grant-in-aid funding to groups in most of the electoral areas.

Area A, in and around Golden, is set to receive $11,975 from the regional district to fund various projects and group initiatives.

Donald Recreation will receive $1,200 as operational funding; Food Matters Society is set to receive $4,000 to create a local food producers tour; Golden Kicking Horse Alpine Team is allotted $1,800 for special needs and low-income assistance; St. Andrews Bargain Basement Thrift Store will receive $,1975 for refuse disposal; Tourism Golden is granted $1,000 in support of the Freeride World Tour Ski Event; and Golden Interact Club will get $2,000 for their local community projects.

Other areas in the CSRD also received grants for educational workshop series, business and recreational packages, arts council operational funding, life jacket kiosks, insurance and repeater compliance, technology and upgrade repairs, signage, computer and school programs, and the hundredth anniversary of the Falkland Stampede.

Areas C, D, E, and F received a total of $90,595 for their projects and initiatives.

There are six separate areas in the regional district that are represented by directors.
