The Kicking Horse Chamber of Commerce is promoting local businesses and encouraging Golden residents to keep it local with their holiday shopping this year, with a new campaign, ‘Golden Shopfest’.

The Chamber has partnered with the Columbia Basin Trust and the Golden Community Coop to bring this promotion to Golden.

The campaign, which will run from Monday, Dec. 6 until Wednesday, Dec. 22, will give shoppers at participating businesses a chance to enter a draw for a prize with each local purchase.

One entry per transaction will be recorded, with three grand prize winners claiming a prize of a $500 shopping spreed at their choice of a local business, fives winners of a $200 gift card to their local business of choice, and ten winners of $100 gift cards at a local business.

Individuals can be entered more than once per location, with ballots being recorded for each purchase during the campaign.

No minimum purchase is required.

Ballots will be collected on Dec. 22 with winners announced shortly thereafter.

There will also be a Golden Shopfest Night on Dec. 18 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Many local businesses across the community, province and country have struggled throughout the pandemic, with the Chambers new promotion looking to help stimulate local shopping and support businesses in Golden.

Shopping local is a vital part of a vibrant, local economy, that allows people to live, work and play in the community they call home. Shopping local is something that’s been important for years and has just been exacerbated by COVID-19.

The prizes also can help support people who live in Golden, with those prizes giving the opportunity to change someone’s Christmas to buy a few extra gifts or treats for themselves or a loved one while still supporting local.
