2 new cases of COVID in Golden area

Provincial case rate slowly declining

The BC CDC is reporting two new cases of COVID-19 in the Golden area for the week of Oct. 31-Nov 6, putting Golden in the case rate of 0.1 - 5.o cases per population of 100,000, one of the lowest in the province.

Just south, however, Windermere region is seeing a surge, with 16 new cases, putting them in the >20 cases per population of 100,000 case rate, making it a hot spot in the province.

Salmon Arm and Enderby both also fall into that case rate.

New cases continue to be concentrated in the north, with case rates remaining elevated in the province, but are beginning to decrease.

New hospitalizations are elevated and stable provincially, while new deaths are low but elevated compared to third wave from earlier this year.

Vaccine coverage sits at 90 per cent of the total population, which includes children who are not eligible yet, for a first dose and 76 per cent for full vaccination, which translates to 90 per cent of those eligible for a first dose and 85 per cent for two.

Being fully vaccinated continues to be the best way to protect yourself against COVID-19, with BC CDC data showing that those who are unvaccinated are 10 times more likely to get infected, 55 times more likely to be hospitalized and 45 times more likely to die from COVID-19 in comparison to those who are fully vaccinated.

Golden’s vaccine rate continues to climb and sit above the provincial average, with 93 per cent of those 12+ having one dose, and 86 per cent with a second dose.

The walk-in vaccination clinic at the Civic Centre on Wednesdays is continuing for the month of November.

Full vaccination is now required for certain non-essential establishments. You are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after your second dose.

Booster shots are coming to the province, as well as vaccination for those aged 5-11. Vaccination registration is now open for children aged 5-11.

Vaccines will also be available at the health unit located at the hospital, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The hospital will be by appointment only.

The fastest option to secure an appointment is to register online at the government of BC website.

The Delta variant continues to account for almost 100 per cent of all cases in B.C.
