Get your skateboards and bikes ready, Golden’s annual Stompdown event is almost here.
Every year the skate and bike competition attracts 40+ competitors and about 300 spectators to check out athletes of all ages (although mostly children), show off their tricks.
“The main goal of the event is to inspire the youth of Golden to keep progressing in their sports alongside their friends,” said organizer Jessie Oatway, who remembers competing in the event himself. “Also, to bring the community together to celebrate the use of the Golden Freeride Park.”
Stompdown will be offering prizes for the top three competitors in each category; there will be at least seven categories. The event will be marketed throughout social media sites, websites, local radio stations, and posters put up throughout the community and neighbouring communities. Stompdown is entirely volunteer run, and supported by donations from businesses.
Columbia River Catering will be providing food truck services throughout the day of the event and there will be live music from local musicians. It is free to enter the competitions and there will be lots of activities on the side lines.
The 11th Annual Golden Stompdown is taking place on Saturday Sept. 9, the same day as the Golden Fall Faire, making for a day full of entertainment.
