Pedestrian struck and killed in Yoho National Park

A Quebec woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Takkakaw Falls Road on Sunday afternoon

A 54 year old woman from Quebec was struck by a vehicle on Sunday afternoon at a popular road pullout near Field. The woman suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

On Sunday, August 20, at 3:30 p.m., the Golden RCMP and RCMP Traffic Service investigators responded to a pedestrian motor vehicle collision on Takkakaw Falls Road. Preliminary findings indicate that the male driver of a 2017 Kia, was travelling north bound on Takkakaw Falls Road, when it crossed over the southbound lane and into a southbound pullout where he struck a female who was taking photos. Takkakaw Falls Road is located just east of the town of Field. The collision occurred in an area which sees high volumes of tourist traffic.

The 54 year old Quebec woman who was visiting from out of Province with her husband. Witnesses also confirmed that the driver narrowly missed a second pedestrian prior to rear ending the female victim’s vehicle. The driver and his passengers were transported to Banff hospital with minor injuries.

Alcohol was not a factor in this collision. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
