Cousins Derek Zwambag and Andrea Senyk are biking across Canada for a good cause. The duo biked into Golden on Thursday and after a day of rest took once more to their bikes in order to raise awareness and $20,000 for the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
“My good friend and neighbour, Bob, passed away from a brain tumour last summer and one of my other neighbours has been suffering from one for ten years now. I wanted to do something for them,” says Senyk. Senyk says that after speaking to Bob’s wife, she felt that the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada would be a worthy cause.
The Cousins plan on making it to St Johns by Mid July and say the trip thus far has been amazing.
“It’s so good, and no matter who we talk to, everyone has been affected or knows someone who has been affected by brain tumours.”
The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada works hard to give aid to the 50,000 Canadians with brain tumours and their families. They donate money for research as well as create groups where those affected are available to speak and deal with their worries and struggles together.
“The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada creates a community,” says Zwambag, “they give people a place to go, but there aren’t enough groups. We’re hoping to raise support around the country.”
Zwambag and Senyk have a blog at miles4minds.net and encourage everyone to visit and keep track of their trials. There is also a link where those who would like to donate are given the option.
