Virtual tour becoming reality

Wixon House walking tour to go online

The Golden Museum and Archives will be collaborating with the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance and William Pitcher’s Legacy of Light Gallery to create a virtual tour of Golden’s Wixon House.

“It will be great to work with William Pitcher again, and on a project so important to local history,” says Colleen Palumbo, Executive Director of the Golden Museum. “The Wixon House is very important as it portrays a different kind of life in a different time. The virtual exhibit will provide an example of the way life was back then, using both video and stills. I am excited that we will be making history through the CKCA by doing this, as it is the first time they have funded an online major exhibition.”

The project will create a walk through video tour and 24 display prints to educate the public about the single protected Heritage property of Golden.

The walk through tour will use live models in period clothing and bring the Wixon House and property to life.

This project will be exhibited online at the Town of Golden website as well as physically at the Legacy of Light Gallery this fall.

CKCA has offered its financial support to this project, granting the Golden Museum and Archives $6500. This, together will the generous donation of $2500 worth of gallery space, all staffing costs, creation the presentation and a launch party, given by William Pitcher, accounts for the $9000 exhibit project.

The Golden Museum and the Golden and District Historical Society would like to acknowledge and thank their partners of the Wixon House Gallery and Exhibit. Together we can provide a valuable learning experience about our past to the residents of Golden and our neighbouring communities.
